Let's Talk about Lochgelly

Let's Talk about Lochgelly

Following a motion passed by the Cowdenbeath Area Committee in February 2024, an extensive consultation was carried out in September and October 2024 to gather public feedback on the future of key services and facilities in Lochgelly.

What we've done

We began with a survey where local residents and organisations had a chance to share their ideas on how spaces like Lochgelly Centre, St Andrews Church and Lochgelly Town Hall should be used in the years ahead.

All Lochgelly residents were encouraged to participate in the survey which covered key topics such as:

  • How the community spaces should be used
  • What kinds of activities or services these buildings should host
  • Ideas for repurposing the aging town hall

In addition to the survey, in partnership Deciding Matters, the consultation also provided local residents with a platform to voice their ideas and priorities for Lochgelly’s future. Through community workshops, drop-in sessions and engagement events, we gathered valuable feedback on key areas, including:

  • Better use of public buildings – Making the most of spaces like Lochgelly Town Hall, St Andrews Church, and Lochgelly Centre.
  • More activities for young people – Expanding opportunities for sports, arts, and social events.
  • Improved local services – Ensuring essential services meet community needs.
  • Stronger community partnerships – Encouraging local organisations to collaborate on projects.

Key highlights

  • Strong community participation – Hundreds of residents took part, sharing ideas and aspirations for their town.
  • Clear priorities identified – The consultation has shaped a focused approach to addressing community needs.
  • Commitment from Fife Council – We’re dedicated to turning feedback into action.

What’s next?

Fife Council remains committed to working closely with the Lochgelly community to bring positive change following the Let’s Talk About Lochgelly consultation.

We’re now developing a clear action plan, working with local groups and partners to bring these ideas to life. The next steps include:

  • Better communication and engagement – Making it easier for residents to stay informed about services, activities, and events.
  • Strengthening partnerships – Supporting local organisations in working together for the benefit of the community.
  • Exploring opportunities for local assets – Looking at how key buildings can best serve Lochgelly’s future needs.
  • Seeking funding and support – Identifying resources to make Lochgelly’s ambitions a reality.

We’re inviting residents to get involved in a new working group that will help turn those ideas into real action.

Community Workshops

We’re holding two workshop sessions at Lochgelly Centre to give people the chance to hear more and get involved. Both sessions will be the same, so you only need to attend one:

  • Tuesday 20 May 2025, 5.30pm – 8.30pm
  • Saturday 24 May 2025, 10.00am – 1.00pm

At the workshop, residents will have the chance to:

  • become part of a working group to lead the development of a Community Action Plan,
  • and, discuss what being part of the group will involve – roles, responsibilities, time commitment and next steps.

How to register

If you’re interested in being part of the working group, please register by Tuesday 14 May 2025. If you’re interested in being part of the working group, register by filling out our online form here or visit Lochgelly Centre to complete a paper form. The deadline to register is 11 May 2025.

We’d love to see as many people as possible get involved – together, we can make a real difference in Lochgelly!
