Silver Sands in Aberdour, one of Fife’s most beloved coastal destinations, has received a major upgrade, improving infrastructure and enhancing the visitor experience.
Silver Sands is a cherished spot for both locals and tourists, especially during the summer months. Its popularity has placed significant pressure on existing facilities. At peak times, the beach can see thousands of visitors in a single day, leading to:

These enhancements make Silver Sands a more inclusive, environmentally friendly and well-managed destination.
Fife Council committed £400,000 from the Scottish Government’s Place Based Investment Programme, with an additional £150,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund already secured. £750,000 from The Scottish Government's Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund (managed by VisitScotland) brought the full vision to life.
Newlay Civil Eng Ltd were the main contractors and carried out the works from autumn 2025 to summer 2026.
Silver Sands improvements are complete. Visitors can now enjoy improved facilities and easier access to the beach.
Next year a beach wheelchair scheme will be introduced at Silver Sands. This will provide all-terrain wheelchairs with large tyres designed to roll easily over sand. We'll let you know when this new feature is available at Silver Sands.
