During 2025/26, Fife Council welcomed the first tenants to Fife Interchange North, a new business park in Dunfermline designed to support business growth, innovation and sustainable economic development. Delivered through the Fife Industrial Innovation Investment (I3) Programme and the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal, the project brings together public sector partners, education providers and industry to strengthen Fife’s economy.

The development provides nine high-quality business units, with the majority already occupied, offering flexible, modern workspaces for growing companies. The units have been built with sustainability in mind, including features such as solar energy, electric vehicle charging and energy-efficient design, supporting businesses to reduce their environmental impact.

The I3 Programme represents a long-term investment in Fife’s economy, creating new business space and serviced land across key locations including Dunfermline, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Levenmouth and Dalgety Bay. By providing the infrastructure businesses need to grow, the programme is helping attract investment, support innovation and create high-quality job opportunities across the region.

The impact of the programme is already being seen. Across Fife, new business units and serviced land have supported over 200 jobs to date, with further growth expected as additional sites are developed. Over the longer term, the programme is expected to support around 770 permanent jobs and 600 construction jobs, strengthening local economic resilience and supporting inclusive growth.

A strong example of this impact is the arrival of iLivestock, an innovative Scottish technology company that has chosen Fife Interchange North as its global headquarters. The move brings together its operations in one location and supports plans for rapid growth, including the potential creation of up to 80 new jobs. The company’s international reach and focus on innovation highlight the type of high-value businesses the development is designed to attract.

The programme also places a strong emphasis on quality and sustainability, prioritising businesses that demonstrate innovation, commit to Fair Work principles and adopt low-carbon practices. This ensures that new employment opportunities are not only created, but are secure, fair and aligned with long-term economic and environmental goals.

The project directly supports the Plan for Fife priorities of community wealth building, addressing the climate emergency and economic growth. By creating high-quality business space and attracting investment into key sectors, the initiative supports jobs, innovation and a more sustainable local economy.

Looking ahead, the I3 Programme will continue to expand, with further business units and serviced land planned across Fife. This ongoing investment will ensure that businesses have the space and support they need to grow, helping to strengthen Fife’s position as a competitive, sustainable and forward-looking place to do business.
