Fife College introduced a free short course to give people the knowledge and confidence to cook healthy meals, while also improving numeracy skills to help with food preparation and budgeting.
Sessions are designed to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment where participants can gain practical skills to support their own, and their families’ wellbeing. But learners also get to use state-of-the-art training kitchens and equipment on the college’s Kirkcaldy and Levenmouth campuses to enhance their experience.
As it’s about dishing up healthy food on a budget, the course is open to everyone from beginners to experienced cooks. At the end of each session, participants take home a low-cost, balanced meal, providing a practical opportunity to apply the skills learned during the course.
Participants report enjoying the classes, getting good feedback from home on the recipes and involving family in making new food.
The course has been run in partnership with Fife Council, through the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
