The ‘Making Glenrothes a Living Wage Town’ initiative is encouraging local employers to pay employees the Living Wage. By paying the real Living Wage, employees and businesses will benefit and the reputation of the whole town will be enhanced. It is the first project in the UK centred on highlighting the Living Wage in a town.

Living Wage accreditation is awarded to employers by Living Wage Scotland and is a symbol of responsible business practice. Accreditation is achieved when employers choose to go beyond the government’s minimum wage and pay all their staff a real Living Wage (currently £9.00 per hour).
There are currently 61 employers across Fife who have achieved accreditation as Living Wage employers, ten are based in Glenrothes. Check out the full list here.

A dedicated Action Group was set up in partnership with Living Wage Scotland to encourage employers in the area to become accredited Living Wage employers.
The Action Group seeks to triple the number of accredited employers in the Glenrothes area within one year.

As part of the Making Glenrothes a Living Wage Town initiative there will be various networking and information events hosted by Fife Council and its partners, to connect like-minded organisations and build up a network of Living Wage employers in the area. Living Wage merchandise and materials will also be supplied to promote the project and your contribution to it as a Living Wage employer.
