Profile

Fife Voluntary Action (FVA) is a Glenrothes based charity supporting around 4,000 third sector organisations in Fife. From minor problems to major employment issues, setting up and winding down organisations, FVA offers a wide range of advice and support free of charge.

With over 24% of Fife’s population involved in some form of formal volunteering the third sector is expanding. FVA is highly committed to meeting this increasing demand and promoting the work of voluntary organisations and volunteers.

FVA was officially formed in 2012 through the merger of CVS Fife, VONEF and Volunteer Centre Fife although it is historically rooted in charitable work going back to the nineteenth century.

Funded by the Scottish Government and Fife Council, FVA has an important role working as the official ‘go-between’ the third sector and the public sector with representatives sitting on the boards of many public sector bodies in Fife.

Living Wage Accreditation

FVA was one of the first organisations in Scotland to become accredited in 2014 and the first third sector organisation in Fife.

We asked Chief Executive Kenny Murphy why FVA became accredited – he said:

“As an organisation we are highly committed to the principal of the ‘Living Wage’ and paying our staff accordingly. How people are treated in the workplace has an impact on their overall wellbeing and everyday life.  We know that by paying staff a basic Living Wage the wages and conditions for lower paid staff in the wider community can be driven up.

“Signing up for Living Wage accreditation wasn’t something we did for show. We wanted to lead from the front by setting an example with our own employees. I’m a passionate believer in the benefits of the living wage and a strong advocate for employee rights.

Here at FVA we want to create a workplace where people will feel valued for the work they do, feel part of the team and receive the same benefits, terms and conditions as all other members in the organisation.”
