The Kingdom Group was established in 1979 and includes Kingdom Housing Association (KHA), a Registered Social Landlord with charitable status. KHA is the parent company of the Kingdom Group which has two subsidiary organisations.
The Kingdom Group is based in Glenrothes and works across East Central Scotland, providing housing and care to meet a wide range of needs. Kingdom is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2019 and over the years has developed over 5000 affordable homes, the majority being for social rent.
The Kingdom Group is involved in several initiatives which go beyond mainstream housing provision, in support of its mission to provide ‘More than a Home’.
The Kingdom Group has been paying the living wage for a number of years, but felt it was important to gain formal accreditation which it achieved in 2019.
One of the strategic objectives at the Kingdom Group is to be an employer of choice and the rates paid reflect the importance placed on the people they employ. Becoming a Living Wage accredited employer was very important as it demonstrates to staff and the wider community, that the Kingdom is and will always be, a socially responsible organisation.
Bill Banks, Kingdom Group Chief Executive said:
“We know that without our amazing team we wouldn’t be able to do all of the incredible work we do. WE feel our work makes a huge difference to the lives of our tenants and residents.
We want our staff to be happy and paying them a salary which allows them to cover real-world living expenses is a big part of that. We feel that happy staff are loyal, engaged and motivated to deliver the best service possible for our customers.
2019 is Kingdoms 40th anniversary and we are proud to be a Living Wage Employer and would encourage other organisations to get involved. We think the benefits are clear and we’re excited to look ahead to the next 40 years of the organisation knowing we’re supporting our staff by paying them fairly.”
Michael Mayes started with Kingdom 3 years ago as a Trainee Finance Officer. Michael was paid at the living wage rate when he started with us as a Trainee and has gone on to complete his trainee programme and now works with us as a Finance Officer
Michael said “You can now live your life and pay your bills but still enjoy life and you are not struggling to get by day to day.”
